E-Coated For Life
By Cindy Oravitz Executive Director The Electrocoat Association Since the early 1960's, when electrocoating burst on the automotive scene as a major advancement in corrosion protection, its use has expanded to many other major industries as well. Today, such noteworthy end use markets as appliance and lawn and garden have adopted electrocoating, enhancing the longevity of these products and significantly changing the way consumers shop for household goods. Although they may not know it by name, consumers have reaped the benefits of electrocoating for years. Things like extended corrosion protection warranties on automobiles are routinely offered these days, and manufacturers are willing to provide them because they know e-coat will protect their vehicles. Beyond the automotive industry, e-coat is used to extend the life of many other everyday items such as washing machines, outdoor lawn furniture and lawn tractors to name a few. Our job as an Association representing the industry is to increase awareness of electrocoating, and to promote the expansion of its use in the Finishing industries. To that end, we are in the process of extending our current Marketing and Publicity program to include retailers and consumers along with manufacturers. You will begin to see new advertisements and articles in targeted trade magazines, new promotional material aimed at specific market segments, and other public relations programs, including promotion of our members who provide electrocoating services. Through educating more people about the excellence of electrocoating, we will help electrocoaters and manufacturers increase awareness and ultimately influence the end consumers to begin asking for e-coat by name.
